Dear LASL clients!   We offer a small package service that entails ocean shipment, customs clearance and delivery. Please read thru the guidelines and contact us if you have any questions.

Guidelines for packages: Please note that in order for your parcel to be sent as a small package, which includes customs clearance and delivery, it must comply with the the small package guidelines:1)value of the contents of all packages  must be designated in EUROs; 2) The max total value of merchandise that  an individual may receive is 150 euro, (approx $167, Sept 2024).  Please limit contents so that they are within the range of personal consumption only 4) please limit package weight to under 30 lbs and size to 18 x 18 x 18" ; and limit the quantity of food items to 3 lbs; 5) declare all items, state amount of items, and give value in EUROs ( $ x .89= euro, Sept, 2024 exchange rate)

Please note: Since Oct 2021 packages have been assessed 12% import duty plus Value Added Tax. ( VAT is obtained by adding 12% of value of declared price to declared price and multiplying by .21)   At the time of collection we will add the import duty amount to your shipping and delivery invoice.  Please note that the shipper pays the import tax for your shipment to be included in the small package shipment. If you prefer other arrangements notify us at the time of package drop off.

 Book shipments to schools and libraries will be collected concurrently with each shipment, as will art and archive donations to museums.  Cost of shipping books to institutions ( schools, libraries, museums):  $45 from the East coast, and $50 from the Midwest package collection. Both include customs clearance and delivery.  The cost of shipping booka to individuals will be assessed at the package shipment rate of $1.70/lb plus delivery and import duty. 

We encourage you to coordinate any less-than- container load ( i.e. personal effects) moves in conjunction with the package pickup ; inland US will be less expensive than if arranged by commercial carriers! For artwork shipments we kindly ask that you contact us in advance to discuss customs requirements.  Please also give us advance notice on any larger shipments you plan to drop off or need picked up in the area of package collection cities.

Guidelines for Book shipments: Please note that book shipments to schools and libraries must be addressed to the institution.  Your contact person's name should be in parenthesis after the name of the institution. The telephone number you provide should reach your contact person directly.It is not necessary to list all book title; instead give a general description of contents.  A box of used books can be assessed a low value, therefor in the vicinity of 10-15 euro per box.

If you have Latvian books you would like to send to Latvia, but no recipient in mind, we suggest "Otrā elpa" in Riga - a non-profit organization modeled on the "Goodwill" industry, whereby proceeds from sales are donated to charities. 

Please see the Latvian National Library link for lists of books they are looking to acquire. If you happen to have any of these elusive editions and would like to donate them, please place book in large envelope, label "LNB collection" and give to our driver for transfer to NJ.  We will compile all donations and deliver to the Library.
